10 ways to pass time if your unemployed

If you are one of the 9.5 % of Americans unemployed I bet you have a fair amount of free time on your hands.  After getting the boot, once you overcame the shock life seemed nice.  Suddenly, you realized that you do not need that company and your career was going no where.  Look on the bright side, you get to start over and until you get a job, well life is an endless weekend.

I bet it was nice to sleep in those first couple of days possibly weeks.  You would wake up around noon eat some breakfast or leftover pizza from the night before then hop online.  By this time you know all of the job sites and listings by heart.  Your resume is beefed up and you might have gotten one or two interviews.  Yet after making it to that final round you recieved the phone call “I am sorry but we went with another candidate who was more qualified and experienced than yourself”.

You find that the days are super long and boring, with only day time television to pass the time mixed in with the very unmotivated trip to the gym.  I have compiled a list of things you can do when you find yourself watching that third loop of Sports Center and want to pull your hair out.

  1. Start a blog, who knows any one can read these things.  If you are a good writer or have some interesting things to write about, it is a great way to make some money on the side.
  2. Go to stumbleupon.com sign up for an account, create your interest list and let the stumble bar take you on a trip around the world wide web, keeping you entertained for hours.  You may just discover the next “David After the Dentist”.
  3. Check out the best of craigslist.  I recently came across this part of craigslist.  Man there are some weird ass people in this world.  Check out what they post and how they post it.
  4. Buy a ton of Gatoraid and water.  Get a portable ice chest and stand outside of a local bar or club.  When people come out completely hammered, charge them triple what the drinks ran you in the supermarket.  Everyone wants to avoid a hang over.  This has been proven to work.
  5. Go through your I.Tunes account and make sure every song has a title, artist, album, and album art work.  Get rid of those annoying track 1, track 1-1, track 1-1-1, unknown album.
  6. Rummage through all of the stuff you have lying around you abode.  See what you use and do not use.  Go ahead and sell it on craigslist to put off moving back home for another month.  Would you rather live with Mom and Dad or have a 46 inch flat screen and PS3?
  7. Send a video of yourself to the celeb you would most like to meet every day at the same time.  Maybe you just might meet him or her.  (It worked on the Fantasy Factory with Rob Dyrdek)
  8. Try and predict who the best player in the most recent draft will be.  Then go to godaddy.com and buy their domain name.  Once they get big and famous you sell it to them for much dinero.
  9. For the adventurous, you can travel “Into the Wild” style.  Me, well I could never do this, but could you imagine the blog and following one would have if he traveled the world with only the clothes on his back and a lap top.  That would be baller, kinda like that 17 year old kid who sailed around the world by himself.  Check that out.
  10. Finally, you can sit around making lame ass lists trying to pass the time similar to this one.  No I am not unemployed, yes I do have a fair amount of free time.  Does anyone want to hire me?

My job application for Dyrdek Enterprises

The very first time I saw Rob Dyrdek, he was starring in the D.C. Video tearing up streets everywhere. He hired a bodyguard named Big Black and well, the rest is history. Their part in the D.C. video was funny and it was only a glimpse as what was to come.
A couple years later MTV dropped the hit reality sit com “Rob and Big”. Somehow no matter what time you turned on the television throughout the day Rob and Big was on. It was great these guys were living the dream. They were making it big being entrepreneurial Moguls. They were truly “doin work son”.
The last episode of Rob and Big sucked because you knew there was going to be no more Mini the horse, Meaty, UAV’s, net guns, backyard skate parks, mural pools, and whack adventures like the time traveling episode (Sorry Rob). It was a loss for television entertainment.
Luckily for MTV, Rob was so gracious to grace the viewers and the network with his presence and carry on his legacy even bigger like down town New York Corpo style of big. Did you create that phrase for the video game?  I like it.  Anyhow now every week I have my DVR set to record Fantasy Factory in case I am not home and able to watch it even though MTV will probably air it twenty more times during the following week.
Every week Rob does it big and does it right. The reason this dude is so successful is because he takes risks. A wise man once told me that all of the most successful people that I could think of have taken huge risks in their life. You have to put yourself out there in order to make it big time. What is even cooler about this style is that it is the true style of the skater. You will never land a trick unless you commit one hundred percent. Yes, for the first couple of times you commit one hundred percent to do a 360 flip 360 down a twelve stair you might turn into “Baily the Bailster” but when you stick it, man all those bails will be well worth it. They will be worth it because you put yourself out on the line and you came through. Not many people in today’s world do this.
Part two of why Rob D is a C-list Celeb (hey man at least you made it on the cover of the WSJ, well all know you are A-List) is because he loves what he does and he works with what he knows. Lets check out his main money maker, it all stems from skating. He then goes on to make two hit television shows, does it big with Rogue Status, Silver Truck company, Monster, Alien Workshop (my first deck), and Reflex.
This guy loves to come to work and there is no reason he should not. He lives in a big kids play ground. He has fun day in and day out and is passionate about what he does. He is even a real estate Mogul, now that’s making it happen.
So here is my plea Rob. If life in the factory day to day is anything like the show, then work gets done and people have fun. It is anything but your typical work environment filled with cubicles and pencil pushers. You let your staff do what they do to best to achieve the end result and it works. You have the most open and creative mind when it comes to making fantasies happen. I like how anything is possible even the bizarre. Walt Disney once said “If you can dream it you can do it”. Well you put the dream into reality each and every day you do it.
I would love to come work for you at the factory.  Possibly blog about the daily factory adventures and do it big on the internet world.  I am not going to sit here and list my resume because lets face it, that is way to Corpo. Instead I am considering this a job application that I am submitting to you on Twitter. Something different and fresh. You are a creative dude and I know that you would be able to put my skills into use.
If not a job how about I just kick it with you for a day and I can blog about it. Kaliphornya.com is my site feel free to check it out. Anyhow keep making it big but more importantly keep loving your job. In the end, or so I have heard that is the true key to success.
You can reach me at kaliphornyablog@gmail.com as I take the first step to turning my fantasy into a reality.
